CHAPTER FIVE:
Hopi and Navajo Initiation
Geronimo â this was the name my dad used to call me from as far back as I can remember. There was no explanation as to why he chose this name but for some reason, it stuck. It wasnât until many years later the connection and significance of the name would have an even greater impact as I stepped into intuitive healing work that stemmed from shamanism. Geronimo, the famous Apache India, was never a chief but a medicine man, a seer and a spiritual and intellectual giant. It was inevitable and no surprise that I found myself being drawn to Sedona and its strong native American presence with the Hopi and Navajo tribes. It was time to deepen my shamanic connection and there was no better way than going to the source itself.
Excitement was building as I had spent many hours preparing, to-ing and fro-ing with the Native American guide I had chosen to work with as we put together the itinerary for my group. Finally, I was taking my first spiritual tour to Sedona and as before, things were mysteriously falling into place.
Having spent hours researching and planning what I thought was the perfect itinerary I was not prepared for the phone call that came out of the blue. âYes, thatâs right,â I heard myself saying, âI have a tour departing shortly to Sedona, would you like to join us?â The woman on the end of the phone then proceeded to tell me that she had just returned from Sedona and that she would not recommend the guide I was using at all. My heart sank as I asked, âWhy not?â She told me that he liked the ladies too much and it had caused a problem in the group tour she had just been on with him. Oh no, what was I to do? We were leaving in about six weeks, I had a full group and they were all ladies. How seriously should I take this random phone call? Feeling sick inside, I decided to sleep on it and make a decision in the morning.
I was up at the crack of dawn and heading downstairs to the computer, my decision to explore other options swirling in my head, I felt confused and bewildered. I could not believe what I saw when I opened my computer. Sitting in my âinboxâ was an email from another company in Sedona! No way. Was this a sign; was I meant to look no further and go with them? I had never heard from them before so how on earth did I get a copy of their newsletter on my computer and on this exact morning? Tapping away furiously I immediately sent an email to Sandra, the owner, to ask how she was placed to be my guide over the time that we were planning to be there and if so what sort of itinerary could she propose. Spirit was certainly guiding me and looking after me
